Selling art isn't really about being the best artist in the world. It's about being findable, being easy to buy from, and being remembered. Here are five things our top young sellers do over and over.
1. Title your art like a search result ๐ท๏ธ
"Untitled 3" tells a buyer nothing. "Unicorn Galaxy โ pastel space sticker" tells them everything, and it matches the words someone might actually type to find it.
- Write a descriptive title with the subject and the vibe or style.
- Add a sentence or two of description: what it is, what inspired it, how someone might use it.
- Use a handful of honest tags โ think of the words a fan would search for.
This is the single easiest thing you can do to get discovered. Do it on every piece, not just the new ones.
2. Post on a schedule, not in a burst ๐
Ten posts in one day, then nothing for three weeks, is hard to keep up with. Instead, pick a rhythm you can actually stick to โ say, one new piece every Friday.
- Consistency beats intensity. Small and steady wins.
- Finished a piece? Add it to your gallery right away so there's always something new.
- Space out your older work so every piece gets its moment in the sun.
3. Use your share links everywhere ๐
Every Art4IRA piece has its own share link, and your gallery has one too. Think of them as tiny storefronts you can drop anywhere:
- In your social media bio (one link to your whole gallery).
- In a post about the specific piece (one link to buy that piece).
- In a message to family โ especially the ones who always ask what you're up to.
- Printed on a little card you hand to anyone who compliments your art. (Yes, really.)
One click and they're at your gallery. Don't make anyone hunt for it.
4. Give people two easy ways to support you ๐
Some people want to buy a piece. Some people just want to say "I love this" with a few dollars. Offer both:
- Tips let a fan support you with any amount โ no pressure, no decision about which piece.
- Licenses let a buyer own digital rights to a specific piece at a price you set.
When both options are visible, more visitors find a way to say yes. And a tip today is often a buyer tomorrow.
5. Turn one fan into ten ๐ฃ
A happy buyer is your best advertiser. Treat every sale like the beginning of a relationship, not the end.
- Thank buyers personally when you can.
- When someone says they love a piece, ask them to share it โ a lot of people will.
- Make more of what sells. If the cat with sunglasses worked, a series of cats with sunglasses probably will too.
- Keep showing up. The more pieces you have, the more chances a new visitor finds their favorite.
Most "overnight success" artists just kept posting. Do the five things above every month and watch what happens.
Bonus: what to do with the money
Every sale you make counts as earned income โ which means some of it can go into a retirement account and grow for a very long time. See why starting early is basically a superpower, or try the retirement calculator to watch it happen.
